After just shy of 40 years of existence, I have decided to close the Women’s Center Karate Club. Coincidentally, the karate club’s founder, Susan Ribner, recently passed away (1).
My decision has not come easily but due to ongoing low enrollment and ever increasing expenses which I am unable to continue to absorb.
It’s been an amazing 30 year journey for me both training and teaching. I’ve met some wonderful and inspiring people both instructors and my students from all over the world.
In the next few weeks I’m going to dig up old photographs and post them on the Women’s Center Karate Club Facebook page. This should give you a few laughs and a peek into some memories related to the school.

For those of you whom I’ve had the pleasure of instructing, my hope is that I’ve instilled in you a “can do” attitude when faced with challenges. While success is not guaranteed, your “can do” spirit will always tip the odds in your favor.
With much love,
Sensei Denise Williams
